The third largest political force in the European Parliament – the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) – elected as their new co-chair on 6 July the distinguished Polish professor of philosophy, Ryszard Legutko. LGBT militants are furious, smearing him as a “homophobe” due to his very solid natural law defence of the family and marriage.

The ECR Group is composed mainly of UK Conservatives and MEPs from the governing Law and Justice Party in Poland and had previously been chaired by a British member. In preparation for Brexit, there is now a Polish co-chair to ensure continuity once the UK leaves the EU and there are no more British MEPs.

Prof. Legutko is a very worthy political group leader in the European Parliament. He has served as Polish Minister of Education, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the late Polish President Lech Kaczynski, and Deputy Speaker of the Senate. He was active in the anti-communist movement in Poland during the 1980s and is a professor of philosophy at the prestigious Jagiellonian University in Krakow, specialising in ancient philosophy and political theory.

The extremist Lesbian Gay Bullying Totalitarian (LGBT) lobby lost no time in slandering Prof. Legutko, dubbing him a “homophobe” and claiming that he has previously made “shocking homophobic statements”. What these radical LGBT militants feign to find so shocking is the fact that Prof. Legutko, armed with his solid philosophical background, has consistently argued against denaturing marriage in order to pander to the sexual predilections of an extremist minority.

Speaking about same-sex marriage in 2014, Prof. Legutko said: “What we have witnessed in Europe is a radical revolution. Over the last 10 years, this is, I believe, an unnecessary and extremely destructive experiment which we’ll be regretting very soon. I represent common sense.” He was simply speaking the truth, obvious to all persons using their common sense. But to the promoters of this radical revolution, such expressions of the truth must be ruthlessly suppressed so that their own destructive ideology becomes the only view permissible.

It is to be hoped that, under the leadership of Prof. Legutko, conservatives in the European Parliament will be emboldened to speak truth to the all-powerful LGBT lobby that seeks to discriminate against Christians and harass them out of the public sphere. In the words of Prof Legutko himself: “Christians are the group that have been discriminated against, not the homosexuals. They are the most protected group you can have.”
