Ex-ESPN reporter Britt McHenry suggests she was fired for being ‘openly conservative’

Britt McHenry, a sports journalist who was recently laid off by ESPN, appeared to suggest that her firing was due to her outspoken conservative views.

Britt McHenry, a sports journalist who was one of about 100 employees recently laid off by ESPN, appeared to suggest Monday that her firing was due to her outspoken conservative views.

“I mean I’ve been openly Conservative… look how that ended up…,” she tweeted in response to a column by Outkick the Coverage writer Clay Travis, who is a vocal critic of ESPN’s perceived liberal bias, Fox News reported.

Ms. McHenry spent three years as a correspondent for ESPN before she and about 100 employees were laid off in a major network shakeup in April.

Though her initial message has since been deleted, her tweets Monday evening suggested there’s more information to come.

“Need to take my opinions & truth to a place & blog that actually gets money for the clicks. I replied to a friend. Take it easy, Twitter,” she wrote.

“Stay true to what you believe in—positive or negative, it’s still a reaction,” she added. “Want the truth from me, come to my social media.”

ESPN declined to comment on the matter, Fox reported.

Ms. McHenry sparked fierce backlash in April 2015 after she was caught on camera verbally abusing a tow truck company employee.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Fox that Ms. McHenry’s firing had nothing to do with the video.
